ATHENS, Ga. (AP) The University of Georgia says the Internal Revenue Service is auditing the income it receives from subsidiaries such as golf courses, food services, parking and catering.
University officials released a letter regarding the audit from the IRS in response to an open records request by the Athens Banner-Herald.
In 2008, the IRS began a compliance project by surveying more than 300 colleges and universities.
An interim report released earlier this month says the agency is conducting more detailed examinations at 30 colleges picked from the original survey group.
IRS spokesman Mark Green did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
