For Sale: Landmark Atlanta Hotel

Published July 7, 2010 at 8:49 a.m.

ATLANTA (AP) Atlanta's landmark Clermont Hotel is on the market.

The six-story building built on a Midtown stretch of Ponce De Leon Avenue in 1924 was initially an apartment building. Atlanta lore has it that the building eventually converted to a hotel once was home to gangster Al Capone.

The downstairs Clermont Lounge is known as a place for young patrons to watch overweight, older dancers.

Franklin Street Financial Partners' Jake Reid says the building is in a great location.

In a release Tuesday, Franklin Street says the building's 126 units could be converted to apartment, office or rental space.
