Bassist and composer Michael Feinberg is playing tonight (Fri., July 2) and tomorrow (Sat., July 3) at Churchill Grounds. For this show Feinberg will lead a 5-piece ensemble through a few new compositions as well as some arrangements of lesser-known jazz tunes. The group will play two sets each night starting around 9 p.m., and the lineup features Feinberg on bass, Atlanta veteran drummer Justin Varnes who has performed with Kenny Barron, Earl Klugh, Wycliff Gordon and David Sanchez among others. Guitarist Alex Wintz from New York who’s earning his masters degree at the Julliard School and has performed with McCoy Tyner and Joe Lovano will also be on-hand, as will Trumpeter Billy Buss and saxophonist Godwin Louisare — both of whom are students of the Thelonious Monk Institute, and have recently returned from a tour in China with Herbie Hancock and Dee Dee Bridgewater Will also be on hand. $10 per set. 9 p.m. 660 Peachtree Street. 404-876-3030.
