(WSB Radio) Police are still hunting for the man who kidnapped an infant, and the child. They are not, however, still looking for the getaway car used in the abduction.
7 month old Drake Boyd was taken from his mother during a violent assault in Greene County, in eastern Tennessee, on Sunday afternoon. A man and three women were involved in the attack and kidnapping.
Authorities say the suspects also stole the mother's car, a 1999 silver Dodge Intrepid, using it as one of two getaway cars.
That vehicle has now been found.
"We felt that we would recover that car," Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns tells WSB. "That it would be found abandoned, which it was."
The car was discovered early this morning, in another state.
"We received information about 8 this morning, from the Newberry, South Carolina sheriff's office," Burns says. "They said they had recovered the vehicle that was taken, by force, from the child's mother."
The main suspect in the abduction is 35 year old David Jackson, described as a black man, 6'2 and 175 pounds.
"We believe he's possibly headed to either Georgia, the Atlanta area near Newnan, or to Florida," says Sheriff Burns. "But, based on the fact that the car was found in Newberry, it means they're going I-26 south. So, we don't know if they're going towards the coast, or down to Florida."
As for the car the suspects may be in, Burns believes they are driving a white Chrysler Sebring with Florida plates, the car they used to drive to the abduction.
The Amber Alert was issued shortly after the boy was taken.
Drake is a black male, weighing 20 lbs. He was last seen wearing Toy Story Pajamas, but could also be wearing a blue pant/shirt set.
Police say Jackson has a lengthy violent criminal history.
