Paraplegic Man Dies in Accident in Atlanta

Published July 18, 2010 at 8:53 a.m.

ATLANTA (AP) Police say a paraplegic man in his 50s died after he lost control of his specially adapted minivan and ran off an interstate.

Police say the 2005 Toyota Sienna LE, which was adapted for use by a handicapped driver, ran off an Interstate 75 ramp around 4 a.m. Saturday when the driver lost control.

The driver, who's name wasn't immediately released pending notification of his family, died at the scene. Police say a female caretaker in the passenger seat was injured and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was in stable condition.

The caretaker told police the two were driving from Michigan to Florida.
