GSU Student Shot, Killed

Published March 4, 2010 at 8:35 a.m.
714394-gsu-student-shot--killed (WSB Radio) -- Atlanta homicide detectives believe the murder of a Georgia State University student may be drug-related...

Maxwell Fiandt, 20, was shot in the back of the head around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday outside a unit of the Pencil Factory Apartments on Decatur Street in downtown Atlanta...

Witnesses questioned by APD officers said they saw two black men in dark clothing leaving the scene after the shooting...

"One of his roommates heard a struggle at the door and came out to check," Maj. Keith Meadows told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "The roommate heard a gunshot, and ran back into his room."

While the victim's roommates were being questioned by police, officers found a small amount of marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms in the apartment.

The high-end Pencil Factory apartments sit across the street from where the Grady Homes housing projects once stood, and boast kitchens with granite counter tops, "Roman" tubs with separate showers, hardwood or concrete floors, and three-bedroom lofts -- like the one where the victim lived -- that rent for around $2,000 a month.
